We run point-to-point drops, round trips, multi-day Kumaon circuits and long high-altitude journeys, with a driver, from Kathgodam and Haldwani. Our regular ground is the Kumaon hills: Nainital, Bhimtal, Kainchi Dham, Almora, Ranikhet, Jim Corbett, Pithoragarh, Munsiyari and Dharchula. Beyond that we run the road to the Adi Kailash and Om Parvat route in the Vyas Valley, which is a different kind of journey and is described separately.
Most people find us because they have a train arriving at Kathgodam and a destination in the hills, and no reliable way to judge what the drive actually involves. So this site is built to answer that first and sell second. Every route page tells you the real distance range, how long the drive honestly takes, what the road is like, and which vehicle suits your group — before it asks you for anything.
We do not publish invented fares, fabricated reviews, or distances copied from sites that quote straight-line measurements as road distances. Where a figure is uncertain we give a range and say why. This is not an ordinary taxi journey.
Adi Kailash sits in the Vyas Valley of Pithoragarh district, close to the India–China border, and reaching it needs an Inner Line Permit issued by the SDM at Dharchula, a vehicle suited to the road beyond Tawaghat, and a realistic view of what going from roughly 940 m at Dharchula to about 4,500 m at Jolingkong does to a body in three days.
The road changed everything here. The Border Roads Organisation's Ghatiabagarh–Lipulekh road, inaugurated in 2020, and the Gunji–Jolingkong spur completed more recently, turned what was a multi-week trek into a drive. KMVN's own package length fell from about seventeen days in 2018 to five days now. That is a good thing and a dangerous one: travellers now arrive at high altitude with almost no acclimatisation.
Choose the vehicle for the road, group and luggage.
What matters on these roads is not the badge on the bonnet. It is ground clearance, torque on a long climb, luggage space, and whether the vehicle is right for the section of road you are actually on.

Two or three people, Nainital or Bhimtal, light bags.
Sedan
A family of four can be fine, but check boot space for large cases.
SUV / 4x4
Extra clearance and torque genuinely matter on tougher routes.
Tempo Traveller
For groups on main roads up to Dharchula; beyond that groups transfer into smaller 4x4s.

If you are arriving by train, give us the train number rather than a time. Trains into Kathgodam run late often enough that a time is not much use.

For the section beyond Dharchula toward Gunji and Jolingkong, yes — the District Magistrate of Pithoragarh publicly recommended four-wheel-drive vehicles for the route at the start of the 2026 season. Below Dharchula an ordinary car is fine.
